Description:
I chose to critique one of my favorite artists. His name is Ivan Alifan. This piece is called Deserter and it was made last year in 2016. In this piece there is a portrait of a man with ice cream on his face as well as his neck and shoulder area. There is part of a cone on the top of his head with a cherry on top. The background is a pale blue that goes with the rest of the pastel colored painting.
Analysis:
I really like this piece because it gives me a calm and happy feeling. The pastel colors with the ice cream texture fit very well together and also makes the piece fun. This piece is also quite creative, as I have never seen a style like this before. The texture of the ice cream gives it a "soft" look and it also makes it feel cool as in cold. The cone on his head makes me think of a crown.
Interpretation:
I don't think this specific piece has a certain meaning, though it is part of his series called, "Not Milk." I think it is just him exploring different poses of people with a unique texture that has not been done very often. It is unique and very different.
Judgement:
Overall I think this piece is very well done. The craftsmanship is great. I love the simplicity of it, but also the small details that you can only see if you look closely at it.
